Find a Female Coach Who Suits How You Learn

SwimmingCoach.sg matches women and girls above 12 with a female swimming coach in Singapore for private or small-group lessons, at a condo pool or a public swimming complex.

Choosing the coach matters as much as choosing the lesson. This page explains how coach matching works, which qualifications to ask about, what a female coach can and cannot promise, and how availability is confirmed before you pay. Ladies’ lessons are 45 minutes, in packages of four, and suit complete beginners as well as swimmers who want stroke correction.

From Enquiry to Your First Lesson With a Female Coach

Tell us your swimming level, the pool you can use, the days and times that suit you, and that you would like a female coach.

We check which female coaches teach in your area at those times, then tell you who is available, where the lesson would take place and the fee before anything is booked. If no female coach is free for your preferred slot, we tell you and suggest other times or locations rather than sending a male coach without asking. You can ask about the assigned coach’s qualifications and experience teaching adult women before you confirm.

Questions to ask

Choosing the Right Female Swimming Coach

A good fit is about qualifications, experience with adult beginners, and whether you feel at ease with the coach.

Before your first lesson, it is reasonable to ask: Which swimming-teacher qualification does she hold, and is it current? Has she taught adult women who were nervous or starting from zero? Can she teach the stroke you want to learn? Is she available on the same day each week, or will the coach change? Will the lesson be one-to-one or with other learners?

Female Coach Availability and What We Can Promise

Ladies’ lessons arranged through SwimmingCoach.sg are taught by female coaches. Availability depends on location, day and time, so a particular coach, venue or schedule is never guaranteed in advance. We confirm the assigned coach in writing before you pay. If your coach later becomes unavailable, we will tell you and offer a replacement female coach or a different slot.

Is the Pool Women-Only?

A female coach does not make the pool itself women-only. Public swimming complexes are open to everyone, and lifeguards and staff may be male. Condo pools are shared with other residents. If privacy matters to you, ask for a one-to-one lesson at a quieter time, such as weekday daytime, or at your own condo pool. For a fuller explanation of privacy, modest swimwear and women-only arrangements, read our guide to ladies-only swimming lessons.

Lesson Format and Fees

Ladies’ lessons are 45 minutes each, sold in packages of four, for learners above 12 (SwimmingCoach.sg published rates, checked 26 October 2026):

  • 1-to-1 with a female coach: $360 for four lessons
  • Group of 2: $220 per person
  • Group of 3 or more: $180 per person

Pool entry fees at public complexes are paid separately. Condo lessons need the resident to check the management’s rules on external coaches. See all swimming lesson rates.

What a Female Coach Will Work On With You

Complete beginners start in water where they can stand: breathing out underwater, floating on the front and back, standing up safely and gliding with a kickboard. Once you are comfortable, your coach introduces a first stroke, usually breaststroke or freestyle, then treading water and deeper-water skills. Swimmers who already swim work on breathing timing, kick and body position. Progress is reviewed at the end of each package; there is no fixed number of lessons that everyone needs.

Swimwear

Full-coverage swimsuits, swim leggings and burkini-style swimwear are fine for lessons if they are made of swimwear fabric. Check your pool’s attire rules. Your coach may suggest a closer-fitting style if loose fabric is slowing you down.

Health Questions Before You Start

Swimming lessons are not medical treatment or a weight-loss programme. If you are pregnant, have recently had surgery, or have significant pain, a heart or lung condition, dizziness or mobility concerns, check with your doctor before starting and let us know when you enquire.

Coach qualifications

Swimming-Teacher Qualifications Explained

Coaches arranged through SwimmingCoach.sg hold different qualifications. Not every coach holds every certificate below, so ask about your assigned coach.

SSI (Swim Schools International) and AUSTSWIM train and certify swimming teachers. Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA, UK) and ASCTA (Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association) are professional bodies for swimming teachers and coaches. The National Registry of Coaches (NROC) is Singapore’s registry of sports coaches. ActiveSG is Sport Singapore’s public sports and swimming-pool network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose a specific female coach?

You can ask for one. Whether that coach can teach you depends on her schedule and the location, so we confirm before booking.

What if I am more comfortable with my friend joining the lesson?

You can book as a pair or small group. Both learners need to be above 12, and the group rate applies.

Will my coach stay the same for all four lessons?

We aim to keep the same coach for a package. If a change is needed, we tell you in advance and offer another female coach.

Do I need to explain why I want a female coach?

No. Just say so when you enquire.
