Delta Swimming Complex: Find a Swimming Coach

Choosing a Coach

What to Look for in a Coach at Delta

SwimmingCoach.sg arranges private and small-group swimming lessons with coaches at Delta Swimming Complex. We are an independent coaching service, not the operator of the complex.

Delta Swimming Complex is the ActiveSG pool at 900 Tiong Bahru Road, within walking distance of Redhill MRT. It has a competition pool, a sheltered teaching pool and a wading pool, and ActiveSG lists it as an inclusive pool. Which pool a lesson uses depends on the learner's level and the space available on the day, so ask the coach where the lesson will take place. The complex is closed on Wednesdays (it opens 8am to 9:30pm when a Wednesday is a public holiday); check current hours before booking.

What is important?

  • Water Safety Awareness
  • Comfort in Water
  • Floating and Buoyancy
  • Breath Control and Blowing Bubbles
  • Kicking and Arm Movements
  • Water Play and Games

The coach checks the learner’s current ability in the first lesson and plans from there. A nervous beginner starts with breathing out underwater and floating; a child who can already swim works on stroke technique and SwimSafer skills; an adult who tires quickly usually works on breathing and body position.

Delta is convenient for families in Tiong Bahru, Redhill, Bukit Merah and the city fringe, and for adults who want a lesson before or after work. Pool entry fees are paid separately from lesson fees. For hours, fees and facilities, see the Delta Swimming Complex visitor guide.

Learner Fit

Matching the Coach to the Learner

Lessons are available for toddlers, kids, adults, ladies and learners with special needs, either one-to-one or in a small group.

Private lessons suit nervous beginners and anyone with a specific goal, such as a SwimSafer stage or fixing a stroke. Small groups cost less per person and work well for siblings or friends at a similar level. Tell us the learner's age, ability and goals so we can suggest a coach who regularly teaches that level.

SwimSafer

SwimSafer Preparation with a Coach

Children working towards SwimSafer stages can be coached on the specific skills each stage tests.

Typical areas to work on include opening the eyes underwater without goggles, treading water or sculling for the required time, survival strokes, and swimming the required distances with relaxed breathing. Preparation, the assessment and certification are separate steps, and no number of lessons guarantees a pass; ask how assessment is currently arranged.

How to Choose a Swimming Coach at Delta

These are the questions worth asking before the first lesson.

Qualifications

Ask which teaching certifications the proposed coach currently holds (for example NROC, SSI or Austswim) and which levels they are qualified to teach. We can share the coach’s current qualifications before you pay.

First Aid and Safety

Check that the coach’s first aid, CPR and AED certification is current, and how they supervise learners in a public pool alongside other swimmers.

Safeguarding

For children, agree where parents can watch from, how the coach gives hands-on support, and who the child is handed back to after the lesson.

Communication

A good coach tells you what was practised, what the learner is working on next, and how progress will be reviewed. Agree how schedule changes and cancellations are communicated.

Weather

ActiveSG states that Delta’s sheltered teaching pool remains open during a Cat 1 lightning alert. This applies to the teaching pool only; lessons in other pools stop, and other closures or staff instructions can still affect a lesson, so ask how the coach handles this.

Nearby Alternatives

If Delta’s times do not suit you (for example on Wednesdays, when it is usually closed), nearby options include Queenstown and Jalan Besar, subject to coach availability.

Kids’ Swimming Lessons at Delta

Kids’ lessons start with water confidence and safety, then build freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke step by step. The coach works on body position, kick and breathing, and tells parents what their child is working on next. See kids’ swimming lessons.

Adult Swimming Lessons at Delta

Adult beginners start with breathing out underwater, floating and standing up safely. Adults who can already swim usually work on breathing timing and body position. See adult swimming lessons.

Toddler Swimming Lessons at Delta

Toddler lessons are short, play-based sessions focused on comfort in the water: blowing bubbles, supported floating, kicking and safe entries and exits. See toddler swimming lessons.

Ladies’ Swimming Lessons at Delta

Women who prefer a female coach can request one when enquiring, subject to availability. Lessons are paced to the learner, and Muslimah swimwear is welcome. See ladies’ swimming lessons.
