Every January, coaches get the same question: “Will my lessons still run on public holidays?” With the Singapore public holidays 2027 now gazetted by the Ministry of Manpower, it is the right time to sit down with your swimming coach and map out the year. This guide lists the official dates and explains, from a coach’s point of view, how to keep progress steady when the calendar gets busy.

Which 2027 Holidays Disrupt Lessons the Most?
Monday holidays – Hari Raya Haji (17 May), National Day (9 Aug) and the CNY in-lieu day (8 Feb) – hit Monday lesson slots hardest. If you swim on a Monday, you could lose three sessions in 2027 without noticing. Friday holidays – New Year’s Day and Good Friday – affect Friday learners the same way. Weekend learners are affected mainly by CNY, when many families are visiting relatives.
A simple fix: look at your regular lesson day, count how many 2027 holidays fall on it, and agree on make-up slots with your coach at the start of the year rather than scrambling each time.
A Coach’s Checklist for Holiday Weeks
- Confirm pool access. Condo pools may have holiday rules, and public pools can have different hours on festive days.
- Set a mini-goal before the break. For example, “10 metres of freestyle with side breathing” before CNY, so the learner has something concrete to practise.
- Give homework. Kicking drills, bubble breathing and floating can all be practised in a hotel or holiday pool.
- Book a progress check after long weekends. The first lesson back is a good time to review skills rather than push something new.
Adult Learners: Use the Long Weekends
Working adults often find it hard to swim consistently. The five 2027 long weekends – 1–3 Jan, 6–8 Feb, 26–28 Mar, 15–17 May and 7–9 Aug – are a chance to add a second lesson that week. Two lessons close together help new skills stick, especially breathing and stroke timing.

Do private swimming coaches teach on public holidays?
Many do, as long as the pool is open and both sides agree. Discuss holiday arrangements with your coach when you book.
What happens to my lesson if it falls on a 2027 public holiday?
Usually it is either held as normal or moved to a replacement slot. The simplest approach is to agree on the rule at the start of the year.
Which day loses the most lessons in 2027?
Monday, with three public holidays: 8 Feb (CNY in lieu), 17 May (Hari Raya Haji) and 9 Aug (National Day).
Is Chinese New Year 2027 on a weekend?
Yes. CNY falls on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February 2027, and Monday 8 February is a public holiday in lieu.
